Thesis Title: Numinous Experiences with Museum Objects
About
I am currently an Assistant Professor at Kent State University in the School of Library & Information Science where I am developing curriculum in museum studies. I have been working in, with, and on museums for nearly 25 years in varying capacities. For instance, I have worked as a museum director, program coordinator, researcher, collections manager, curator, volunteer, board member, consultant and college instructor in museums such as children’s, history, art, anthropology, living history, and science as both an academic and a professional.
My interests lie in phenomenological methodology, the museum object as document, authenticity or the 'real', the physical vs. digital aspects of communication, affect in the museum, and lived experience as a way of knowing. My dissertation (posted here at academia.edu) is titled Numinous Experiences with Museum Objects. It is an exploration into the meanings made by people who have had deeply moving experiences with museum objects.
